Bomb 51mm Illg belongs to the family of Illg Ammunition used extensively to support night warfare. It provides adequate illumination to support infantry combats, aerial photography and army movement.
The bomb is fired from a 51 mm Mortar, smooth bore, muzzle loading weapon. The Ammunition has unique features of multiple delay system enabling to achieve variable ranges from 350 to 950 metres. 4 delays are provided with a time setting 3.5 Sec, 6 Sec, 9.5 Sec and 11.5 Sec. The illuminant supported by parachute is deployed in the air and gives illumination for a period of more that 30 Secs.

Quality control technique and quality assurance measures ensure desired performance. Sub-assemblies like tail unit, primary cartg, Illuminant subjected to test/proof before final assembly. Apart from standard checks and tests, a lot of 1000 Nos. is subjected to functional (dynamic)proof. The Ammn is based on double sampling plan with 10% AQL for major defects as contained in the quality assurance documents. Critical defects like premature functioning not permissible.
The Ammunition is safe in all respects during handling, operation and transportation.

b) The delay time, which is the brain of the Ammunition is highly consistent.

Packing consists of inner and outer packages. The inner package is HDPE/LDPE container. Six such containers are packed in canvas bag with shoulder strap. Four canvas bags are then packed in wooden/steel box. Gross weight of each box containing 24 bombs is 46 Kgs.
